VAUXHALL’S Astra VXR is no slouch, but once Triple Eight Engineering – the team responsible for preparing 2008 BTCC Drivers’ Champion, Fabrizio Giovanardi’s Vectra VXR – has worked its magic, this car becomes a different animal altogether.
Triple Eight provide a raft of different tuning parts for all VXR models. Opt for the Remus exhaust for the Astra VXR, and not only will you get a taste of what our BTCC drivers hear as they accelerate out of Woodcote bend, but you’ll also get up to 20 horsepower of extra power – and all for just £850 fitted.
Of course, the Astra VXR can take more power, and that’s why Triple Eight can ‘adapt’ your ECU to liberate a further 49 horsepower, bringing with it a performance hit that would keep Mr Giovanardi happy for more than a lap or two.
But power is nothing without control, which is why Triple Eight offer a wheel and tyre package, comprising bespoke 18-inch, heat-treated wheels with 235/40 x 18 Toyo Proxy tyres for £1380. Complementing this is the VX Racing brake kit, developed with AP Racing, which includes four-pot front callipers and larger 343mm x 26mm front discs for ultimate stopping power.
Completing this dynamic package is Triple Eight’s Eibach Sport Spring Lowering Kit, which drops the Astra’s ride-height by up to 15mm, ensuring that even the likes of Messrs. Onslow-Cole, Neal and Giovanardi can attack bends with speed and composure.
All VXR Triple Eight parts are available now from your nearest Vauxhall dealer.
